Yuvi Zalkow and Rob Yardumian

Yuvi Zalkow, author of A Brilliant Novel in the Works, recently introduced me to fellow Portland writer Rob Yardumian.

Rob’s beautifully titled novel, The Sound of Songs Across the Water, is slated for release this month by MP Publishing, which released Yuvi’s novel in 2012. Rob will be reading at Powell’s Hawthorne at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, June 10, so add that to your calendar if you’re here in Oregon. Rob is also releasing a companion CD to the book, which features a rock band, circa 1995. The CD is titled “Sing with Me, Brother, For We Have Sinned” and is available now through CD Baby.

Recently Rare Bird Radio recorded and released a conversation between Rob and Yuvi about finding a community of writers, the incredible entrepreneurial spirit that exists here in Portland, writing while parenting, and much more. Listen to Rob and Yuvi here.

An interview with Yuvi Zalkow appears in Brave on the Page: Oregon Writers on Craft and the Creative Life, published by Forest Avenue Press in October 2012. He is well-known for his popular “Failed Writer” videos and has recently launched a new series, “The Scribbling Bucket.” Here’s a list of all Yuvi’s videos–but make sure to set aside some time to explore them, because they’re addictive.
