Stevan Allred’s audiobook launches today!

Stevan Allred’s linked short story collection, A Simplified Map of the Real World, is out now from Blackstone Audio, narrated by the author and unabridged.

Stevan’s debut was also Forest Avenue’s first fiction title, which we published in September 2013. At that time, Stevan read from the book at myriad events and was always asked the same question:

When are you going to have an audiobook?

Stevan’s reading voice has been admired for twenty-plus years in the Portland metro area, at countless literary events, including Writers’ Night at the Springwater Grange, which he co-hosts in Estacada, Oregon.

After much discussion, and deciding that Forest Avenue didn’t currently have the capabilities to produce an audiobook or broker a deal for one, Stevan decided to work with Dan Rhiger of Medicine Whistle Studio to record all fifteen stories.

This fall, Publisher Laura Stanfill met with a Blackstone Audio representative at the Ashland Literary Arts Festival, thanks to organizer Tod Davies inviting Blackstone, and the result is this collaboration.

The audiobook edition of A Simplified Map of the Real World is available wherever audiobooks are sold, through your local library (request it if you don’t see it), and directly through Downpour, a Blackstone Audio site. Independent bookstores can also place special orders for the physical copy of the audiobook.

Stevan launches A Simplified Map of the Real World’s audiobook on March 10 at the Estacada Public Library. Stay tuned for details.

About the book: Fifteen linked stories chart a true course through the lives of families, farmers, loggers, former classmates, and the occasional stripper. In the richly imagined town of Renata, Oregon, a man watches his neighbor’s big-screen TV through binoculars, an errant son paints himself silver, mysterious electrical humming emanates from an enormous barn. In A Simplified Map of the Real World, intimate boundaries are loosened by history—and high above the strife and the hope and the often hilarious, geese seek the perfect tailwind. Stevan Allred’s stunning debut deftly navigates the stubborn geography of the human heart.
