Stevan Allred is one of the authors participating in OHS’s Holiday Cheer event.

We have a number of exciting events coming up in the next few weeks.

Stevan Allred reads with local author Natalie Serber at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 7, at Broadway Books. Natalie is the author of Shout Her Lovely Name, a linked short story collection.

Indies First, an initiative started by Sherman Alexie, is a grassroots movement to get authors into bookstores to hand-sell their favorite books to readers who walk in. The date is Saturday, Nov. 30. Stevan will be at Powell’s City of Books on Burnside from ten to noon. He will be at St. Johns Booksellers with author Willy Vlautin and poet Dena Rash Guzman that afternoon. In the evening, he’ll be speaking at Burnt Tongue in Portland–details to be announced.

The annual Oregon Historical Society’s 46th annual Holiday Cheer festival is free and open to the public. Holiday Cheer features numerous Oregon authors of books published in 2013. It’s a great one-stop gift shopping experience for the holidays because of the variety of subjects; this year, there will be more than 75 authors, not to mention hot cider and holiday songs by The Dickens Carolers. Stevan Allred will be participating with his debut, A Simplified Map of the Real World (Forest Avenue Press). The celebration of Oregon authors runs from noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 1, at the Oregon Historical Society, 1200 SW Park Ave., downtown Portland.

Stevan will be signing books at The Willamette Store’s Thank You Sale from noon to 1:15 on Dec. 5. The annual sale thanks the Willamette University community and Salem-area book clubs for their support.
