Acquisition: WIFE / DAUGHTER / SELF by Beth Kephart

Forest Avenue Press has acquired world rights to Beth Kephart’s memoir-in-essays, Wife / Daughter / Self, in a pre-empt, by agent Karen Grencik of Red Fox Literary, for publication in spring 2021. Sylvia Hayse Literary Agency represents foreign rights.

In luminous and poetic prose, Kephart examines her identity as a link to others—her artist husband, her grieving father—before focusing her keen insight on what it means to be herself. Wife / Daughter / Selfisn’t a road map or a manifesto; it’s a blazed trail through the unruly overgrowth of the everyday. With her latest work, Kephart delivers a beautiful and bone-deep rumination on devoting one’s days (and years) to the writing life.

“I’ve been a longtime admirer of Beth’s,” said Publisher Laura Stanfill, “and acquiring this project is definitely a career highlight for me.”

In addition to being an award-winning teacher at Penn, Kephart is the award-winning author of two dozen books, the co-founder of Juncture Memoir Workshops, and the author of essays and reviews and interviews for The New York Times, Literary Hub, Washington Post, Chicago Tribune, The Millions, Ninth Letter, North American Review, Catapult, Salon, Ploughsharesblog, and others.

Forest Avenue Press, founded in 2012 in Portland, Oregon, publishes literary fiction on a joyride and the occasional memoir. The press is distributed nationally by Publishers Group West.
